1927 “THE JAZZ SINGER” … first sound or “talkie” film, and first musical movie.
Hollywood become a production from mid 30s onwards line of films releasing 1 film a week. Studio owns everything, writers and directors not important. Often teams of writers working on many films.
TV comes on scene… and Hollywood is forced to change the way it works.
The writer’s union is begun to get fair rights for the writers, and directors become the most important role. Francis Ford Coppolla, Martin Scorsese, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg see the new dawn of Hollywood. From the 1950s, the term “NEW HOLLYWOOD” is in place and lasts until the 1980s.
Films that challenged Authority, American Morals and Religion are created. “Harold and Maude” and “Midnight Cowboy” see the arrival of contraversial films…. “Midnight Cowboy” being the first X rated film to win the Best Film OSCAR…
1980s sees the beginning of a new era, the Million Dollar Movie era… where films begin to get made purely to become Million Dollar blockbusters. “Jaws”, “Star Wars”, “Indiana Jones”… and sequels!!!!! Loads of Sequels!!
